Secure to your planter - Place a heavy object in your planter like a sandbag or bricks.  Tie or bungee cord the heavy object directly to the topiary ball.  Alternatively, you could add the heavy object to the inside of the topiary ball.   Bob's your Uncle, done. 

Secure to the ground - pound landscaping stakes (tent pegs) close to each side of ball. Zip tie the ball to the top of the stake.
